The Bible speaks of “BREATH” many times throughout scripture. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word “RUAKH” is what the biblical authors used to describe God’s personal presence – “BREATH”, “SPIRIT,” “WIND”, OR “GOD’S SPIRIT.”
We often find “Breathing” to be calming and restorative, especially when we are stressed. Coincidence? I don’t think so. God’s presence provides peace. Breathing seems so simple, but it’s far from. BREATH, as I dove into the scriptures, is actually quite profound and powerful – and God designed it that way.
Below is the LIVING, BREATHING SCRIPTURE that spoke to me and inspired the name – A BREATH OF HEAVEN – a name that reflects the restorative hope that is in JESUS.

GENESIS 2:7 (THE VOICE) – “One day the Eternal God scooped dirt out of the ground, sculpted it into the shape we call human, breathed the breath that gives life into the nostrils of the human, and the human became a living soul.”
God breathed His breath (ruakh) into a lump of clay and our lives began.
WE WERE BORN FROM A BREATH OF HEAVEN.

JOHN 20:20-23 (NIV) – “After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.“
Jesus uses the same breath (ruakh) that God used in Genesis, but this time the original text is in Greek (emphysao). Jesus’ breath provides us purpose, to spread the Gospel with the Holy Spirit to all ends of the earth.
WE FIND PURPOSE THROUGH A BREATH OF HEAVEN.

2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV) – “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
Paul tells us that all scripture is God breathed and to be used for guidance in our life.
Revelations 10:9-10 (TPT) – “I went up to the angel who stood on the sea and the land and told him to give me the little scroll. Then he said to me, “Take it, and eat it. It will be sour in your stomach but sweet as honey in your mouth.” I took the little scroll from the hand of the mighty angel and ate it. Indeed, it was sweet as honey to taste, but after I had eaten it, my stomach turned bitter.”
God guides us through life with His book – when we open it and read it, there’s a breath from heaven that penetrates us. It’s as life giving as food and water – we are instructed to “Eat the Book” to get God’s words deep into our soul.
WE FIND GUIDANCE IN A BREATH OF HEAVEN.

Ezekiel 37:14 (MSG) – “Therefore, prophesy. Tell them, ‘God, the Master, says: I’ll dig up your graves and bring you out alive—O my people! Then I’ll take you straight to the land of Israel. When I dig up graves and bring you out as my people, you’ll realize that I am God. I’ll breathe my life into you and you’ll live. Then I’ll lead you straight back to your land and you’ll realize that I am God. I’ve said it and I’ll do it. God’s Decree.’”
The coming of breath to the dead bones recalls God’s life-giving breath in Genesis. This same breath of heaven will make all things new when Jesus returns, which is the glorious hope of the Christian life.
I had four babies unable to take a breath on this earth, their first Breath was in Heaven. This glorious hope in the resurrection is what got me through. God will restore with His Breath of Heaven.
WE WILL BE MADE NEW WITH A BREATH OF HEAVEN.
To remember my four babies, who are Breathing in Heaven. To rejoice that my two daughters here on earth and my husband will get to spend eternity together, Breathing in Heaven. To honor my Lord and Savior, who gave us the ultimate gift.
WHAT A GIFT – A BREATH OF HEAVEN
With this gift, God’s breath in my lungs, I promise to spread the Gospel until the day I take my first Breath in Heaven.
